Biography
Although some pro golfers have won more major tournaments and others have collected more in winnings, Ben Crenshaw remains after three decades one of the most popular and talented players on the PGA Tour.
His all-American looks, charisma, and grace under pressure have made him a gallery favorite from his days at the University of Texas, where he was heralded as the next Jack Nicklaus, to the 1984 Masters Tournament, where he ended a decade of frustration to capture his first major championship title. Mr. Crenshaw is widelyregarded as one of the best putters in golf history.
His instructor growing up, Harvey Penick, taught Ben a smooth, effortless stroke on the greens, which garnered him the nickname "Gentle Ben". Mr. Crenshaw is one of only two players to ever win their first ever PGA Tour start and has a total of 19 victories including two Major Championships.
Design Philosophy
Admiration and respect for the classic golf courses of the "Golden Age of Architecture" inspired Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore to establish the firm of Coore and Crenshaw Inc. in 1986. Theirs is an architectural firm based upon the shared philosophy that traditional, strategic golf is the most rewarding, and the creation of courses that present this concept with the greatest artistry is the ultimate goal. They have blended their personal experience and admiration for the classical courses of Ross, Mackenzie, Macdonald, Maxwell, and Tillinghast to create a style uniquely their own.
